Usually the baby would only need to be taken to the nursery for the initial Pediatrician exam and certain procedures like blood draw or circumcision (if you choose). An exception would be if your newborn is having a transitional problem.

Call the nursery nurse and make arrangements. Please note that if you're trying to establish breast feeding, it is best to breast feed every three hours.
The nursery clerk will electronically send the discharge summary and pertinent information to your Pediatrician after you are discharged from the hospital. The State Metabolic Screen results will be available to your Pediatrician about two weeks after discharge.

The staff works hard to expedite the discharge process so that your room can become available for another birth mother. Your Obstetrician will determine when it's the appropriate time for your departure and will share this with you on their rounds. Typically, your newborn will be ready as well. If the newborn needs to stay then the baby's doctor will share this information with you. If you are planning to be discharged early from either vaginal birth or cesarean birth, then let the baby's doctor know so that discharge can be coordinated.

Unfortunately, Dr. Sharp is a hospital-based doctor only and does not have a clinic to see infants in follow up.
The hospital's lactation specialists will provide you with discharge information and their phone number if questions arise. Some pediatric groups like Pediatric Partners of Augusta have their own lactation specialists.
